Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) personnel confiscated around 889 tarpaulins and posters of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) candidates that are not posted in the common poster areas during the implementation of the city-wide “Oplan Baklas” on the second day of the election campaign period on Friday, Oct. 20.
The DPOS launched the operations in the city’s six districts along with members of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the city.
DPOS head (Ret.) Gen. Elmo San Diego said that as of 9:30 a.m. on Friday, the local government collected 253 pieces of tarpaulins/posters posted on non-common poster areas in District 1; 18 in District 3; 352 in District 4; 230 in District 5; and 36 in District 6. Also confiscated were posters and tarpaulins that violate the size guidelines issued by the Comelec.

No posters that violate Comelec’s guidelines were collected in the city’s second district.
There are a total of 252 designated common poster areas in the city, according to the DPOS. These include 50 areas in District 1, 53 in District 2, 47 in District 3, 21 in District 4, 38 in District 5, and 43 on District 6.
San Diego said those candidates who will be caught violating the guidelines for posters/campaign materials may be disqualified by the Comelec.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Comelec in QC, and the local government conducted a unity walk, candidates’ orientation, and peace covenant signing for thousands of BSKE candidates at the Quezon Memorial Circle as part of the city’s commitment to peace-building in the community.
The aspiring candidates who participated in the event underwent orientation to equip them with essential knowledge and skills, empowering them to effectively fulfill their duties as public servants, the QCPD said.
They also signed the “Peace Covenant” which stood as a testament to the candidates' dedication to ensuring peaceful and equitable elections.
The ceremony underscored the significance of conducting campaigns and electoral activities with respect, integrity, and strict adherence to the rule of law, the police said.
QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said they will continue to implement the intensified Comelec gun ban and checkpoints to deter any election-related incidents.
