IT'S THE SMALL THINGS
On the month of October, we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). It is a month that screams all things pink, and rightfully so, it pays tribute to some of the strongest women warriors this world will ever come to know. Pink gives life, and pink brings awareness to a cause that a lot of women fight (or have fought) and conquer. When detected early, breast cancer is extremely curable and as daunting as the concept of cancer may be, is by no means a death sentence. A whole lot of meaning has been brought into my life ever since my mom’s personal ordeal in 2014, and since then, I have made a commitment to shine light on this matter as I aim to bring hope to lives that need it most.
Quite fittingly, October also happens to be the month of the holy rosary. It is a month that reminds us of the power of prayer and that with faith, miracles can, and do happen. It is a month that celebrates Our Lady of the Holy Rosary who tirelessly prays for all of us. For Catholics, it reminds us of the gifts praying the rosary daily brings to our lives, and the importance of placing prayer at the very core of our everyday.
October also happens to be the month I celebrate my civil wedding, thus, it has since become a month of milestones and new beginnings. It is a month that also reminds me that the only constant in this world is change. Being a pandemic bride meant having to be flexible and becoming immune to rolling with the punches of the situation. Although the end celebration was the farthest from what we originally imagined, it was not at all less meaningful. In fact, it shone light on the most important people in our lives, and placed into perspective what truly matters.
October has always been one of those months that hold extra meaning to my personal life as opposed to others. Perhaps because it has been a month in the past that has tested my faith, and seen me through some of the most major hardships in life. Even if it has gratefully somehow always ended on a celebratory note, that is not to say that Octobers have not seen me at my worst, and have tested my strength to say the very least. Ultimately, Octobers to me are reminders of Gods love and testament through time.
