No problems encountered on first day of BSKE campaigning - Mayor Francis
San Juan City Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) President Francis Zamora on Thursday, Oct. 19, announced that the first day of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) campaign went without a hitch and expressed hope that this will continue until the end of the campaign period.

Mayor Francis Zamora
"So far, wala naman po akong natatanggap na anumang masamang balita regarding the other cities in Metro Manila in connection with the barangay election. Dito sa San Juan, maayos ang unang araw, mapayapa, wala naman po tayong naging problema (So far, I haven't received any report on untoward incidents from the other cities in Metro Manila in connection with the barangay election. Here in San Juan, the first day went peacefully and without any problems)," Zamora said in a radio interview.
"Compliant po ang mga kandidato. Yung mga hindi compliant eh talagang finilean nila (Comelec) ng action. In fact, merong mga show-cause order, pinagpaliwanag sila so malaking bagay talaga na ang Comelec, simula umpisa pa lang, ay seryoso sa implementasyon (All our candidates are compliant with the rules and regulations of the Commission on Elections (Comelec). The Comelec really acted on those who were not compliant. They were given show-cause orders and the chance to explain themselves to the agency. Comelec's seriousness in the implementation of its rules and regulations since the beginning is really a big part of the success of the first day of campaigning)," he added.
He called upon all BSKE candidates to always follow the rules and regulations of Comelec and stressed that if they are running for barangay positions, they have to show the people that they know how to follow the rules.
"Kung tayong mga barangay officials ay marunong sumunod sa mga patakaran ay mas lalo tayong rerespetuhin ng ating mga mamamayan. Kung tayo ay naghahangad na mamuno sa barangay tapos tayo pa ang unang hindi susunod sa mga panuntunan, baka maging negative para satin yan (If we barangay officials know how to follow the rules, then our constituents will respect us. However, if we wish to lead in our barangay but will also be the first one to violate the rules, then this will be a negative factor for us)," the mayor stressed.
Zamora also noted the importance of maintaining cleanliness during the campaign period most especially in the designated poster areas where candidates may attach posters and other campaign paraphernalia.
"Meron tayong mga designated poster areas na dapat sundin. Kapag hindi sumunod sa designated poster areas, iyan po ay posibleng maging election violation at maaaring madisqualifiy pa kayo. Pati iyong mga illegal activities ay huwag na ninyong gawin. I have seen how the Comelec is implementing its rules and regulations at mas firm po ngayon (We have designated poster areas that have to be followed. If they will not follow the designated poster areas, that is a possible election violation which could lead to their disqualification. Don't even dare to conduct illegal activities. I have seen how the Comelec is implementing its rules and regulations. It is very firm about this," the local chief said.
The MMC president also reminded candidates to be courteous in campaigning and to refrain from conducting activities that will cause traffic and inconvenience to others.
He urged the public to vote wisely and to choose the candidates who can truly be relied upon, honest in their work and to their constituents, and have the capability to successfully perform their duties.
The BSKE campaign period will run until Oct. 28.
