Veteran big man JP Maguliano sparked Emilio Aguinaldo College in the fourth quarter to get past the gritty Benilde side, 78-76, in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament on Friday, Oct. 20, at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

Maguliano threw his weight inside the paint and scored seven of his 17 points in the final frame, including a crucial free throw that gave them some breather at 77-73 with 12.7 seconds left.
The Generals were also able to survive the triumvirate of Miggy Corteza, Mark Sangco, and Robi Nayve, who had their combined effort put to waste thanks to the steady plays of Maguliano's supporting cast in Ralph Robin and Nat Cosejo.
Maguliano added 12 rebounds to his name, while Robin and Cosejo chipped in 16 and 12 points, respectively, as the Generals won their fifth game against three losses.
EAC embarked on a 12-2 run to open the fourth period highlighted by consecutive triples from Maguliano, Robin and Cosejo.
Down 65-59, Corteza and Nayve anchored the Blazers back to level the score at 68 apiece.
Benilde even took the lead after Sangco knocked down a trey to make it 73-71.
Unfortunately, Corteza was pulled out of the game after a collision with King Gurtiza with under two minutes left, to which the Generals had capitalized on the offensive end.
Nayve registered 23 points with eight rebounds and three assists, while Corteza, who hurt his right ankle, added 15 points. The Blazers dropped their fourth game in eight games.
