An agreement that will enhance trade facilitation programs for importers and stakeholders was signed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost).
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio and PHLPOST Postmaster General Luis Carlos, along with other key officials, led the signing of the agreement that aims to expedite clearance, enhance security measures, improve compliance with international customs, and streamline processes for smoother trade operations.
The agreement defines the relationship and functions of PHLPOST and BOC in managing customs duties, taxes, and other import charges. It also includes processes from receipt and processing to the disposal of postal items.
This partnership emphasizes the commitment of BOC and PHLPOST to combat violations of customs laws and to address the transport of illicit materials and money laundering activities.
“Rest assured the BOC will remain your partner in ensuring obligations under this Agreement are met and efficiently performed through our mutual and continued support,” Rubio said.
In the 2023 UN Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation, the Philippines was ranked second in Southeast Asia in terms of trade facilitation.
The country’s trade facilitation score increased to 87.10 percent score, up from 86.2 percent in 2021.
Singapore was ranked the highest in the region with a percentage score of 96.77 percent.
