Carlos Edriel Yulo, best known as Caloy Yulo to most, made headlines recently after securing a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics for his efforts in the floor exercise at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships at the Sportspaleis in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, Oct. 1.

It was an odd accomplishment for the 23-year-old Filipino considering longtime Japanese coach, Munehiro Kugimiya, was not by Yulo’s side. Word got out last week that both went separate ways, a surprising development considering the tight-knit relationship that both had the past years.

The reason behind the split reportedly had something to do with Yulo’s personal life. These claims have slowly surfaced with the girlfriend of Yulo allegedly wanting Caloy to spend more time with her.

Reaching out to people close to Yulo, it was shockingly revealed that all is not going well in Yulo’s circle. The issues are very sensitive and it was added that the mess has been dragging on for some time now.

In all, the personal life of Yulo is being singled out. And that radiated even more when he started his routines at the Artistic World Championships.

The whole mess is an unfortunate turn of events for Yulo who has undoubtedly risen to fame with his performance and guidance by several people. The sudden change in trajectory in his personal life raises questions on whether he can sustain or improve on what he has already accomplished, competing with a dark cloud hovering over him.

Communication with his family is not as it used to be according to close members of his clan. And while ties with Kugimiya have been cut, the Japanese coach is not entirely shutting the door on Carlos Yulo.

Having spent many years with Caloy Yulo, coach Mune is still hoping that the 23-year-old gymnast can still be the kind of person he wants him to be. That of which is a person who respects others both as an athlete and a human being.
