Ruby Ruiz: 'Isa-puso ang bawat role na ibibigay sa inyo'

There are no small roles.

This was emphasized by Ruby Ruiz at the press conference for the Vivamax movie "Langitngit."

She shared how she began her career over four decades ago playing supporting roles.

Ruby expressed pride in how it helped provide for her family inasmuch as it also allowed her to tackle something she truly enjoyed.

This is something she hopes newcomers will learn to appreciate.

She advised, "Isa-puso ang bawat role na ibibigay sa inyo para yung performance niyo would come from the heart."

Ruby never trivialized the roles given her, maintaining, "Lagi kong pinahahalagahan kahit gaano pa kaliit, sa kahit anong larangan - teatro, entablado, TV, film."

For Ruby, acting has been personally enriching.

She maintains, "I give integrity to what I do."

Despite her achievements, she remains grounded.

She's still open to participating in students' thesis projects if she relates to the story's narrative and purpose.

Ruby, a multi-awarded best actress known for her remarkable performances in independent films like "Iska," "Lockdown," and "Ekstra," has earned her place on casting shortlists.

She recounted a time when Viva's boss, Vic del Rosario, questioned who she was. She understands his perspective and appreciates his honesty.

Thanks to director Christopher Novabos, Ruby became part of "Langitngit," a film where the lead role was tailored for her.

The story revolves around Layla (Manang Medina), a call center agent, and Manay Flor (Ruby), an elderly religious woman. Popoy (Itan Rosales), the latter's grandson, also lives in the house.

As they co-exist, Layla and Popoy develop an interest in each other, leading to a discreet relationship that they hide from Manay Flor. Unbeknownst to them, Manay Flor observes them closely, peering through holes in the wall and overhearing their intimate moments.

Manay Flor believes Layla is a bad influence on Popoy and a force of evil. This belief prompts her to try to separate them. This peculiar behavior only scratches the surface of Manay Flor's true story, which Layla will soon uncover.

Upon joining the project, Ruby was eager to prove herself.

She jokingly remarked, "Sana makilala na ako dito ni Boss Vic kahit hindi ako naghubad sa shower scene dahil hindi naman hiningi ng direktor."

On a more serious note, she expressed her pride in being part of the sexy thriller, admitting that she used to hold back a bit.

While Ruby had previously played supporting roles in two other Vivamax movies, both left a lasting impression.

Ruby admired the artistic approach taken in "Langitngit" and expressed hope that it might be considered for international festivals.

She praised her fellow cast members for their skill and professionalism, highlighting their dedication to their characters and scenes.

She also commended Christopher for his clear vision and direction.

Ruby declared, "I'm so proud to be part of 'Langitngit,' it's something different."

Whenever Ruby hears negative assumptions about Vivamax projects, she is quick to defend them.

She emphasized that there is always a story behind them.

However, she confessed to being shocked during her first Vivamax project when she encountered explicit scenes.

She recalled thinking, "'Oh my God, ito na pala yung trend ngayon? Talagang hubad?'"

Ruby even spoke with young stars about them doing such scenes.

She noted, "Sure ka ba sa ginagawa mo? Enjoy ka?" and received confident responses.

She emphasized that each person follows their own path to success.

Ruby, a seasoned actress, doesn't judge any of the stars she works with.

She acknowledged that in her youth, she wouldn't have been comfortable with the roles some take on, but for them, it's a natural part of acting.

She admires their ability to perform without malice while delivering powerful performances.

For Ruby, that's true talent.

"Langitngit" is set to premiere on Oct. 6.
