The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed on Monday, Oct, 2, the death of a 32-year old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was found dead with several stab wounds in the body in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the DMW said it is now coordinating with its Migrant Workers Office in Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia (MWO-Al Khobar) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to get a clear picture of what happened that could lead to the identification and arrest of possible perpetrators behind the death of Marjorette Garcia.
Garcia, who was deployed in Saudi Arabia as domestic worker in 2021, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the body. She is the latest OFW who died in the Middle East after Jullebee Ranara who was killed in Kuwait earlier this year.
“The DMW through its Migrant Workers Office in Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia (MWO-Al Khobar) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are working in coordination with the Philippine Embassy as well as local police authorities in an ongoing investigation into the circumstances behind OFW Marjorette’s death,” the DMW statement read.
The department said it is also now focusing on the arrangements for the return of her remains at the soonest possible time.
“The DMW extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of OFW Marjorette. We assure them of our continuing support during their time of grief and in the ongoing investigation,” the DMW statement read.
