Fifty-eight percent of Filipinos are in favor of Sen. Robin Padilla’s proposal to declare Sept. 21 as “Unsung Heroes Day” to commemorate and honor soldiers, government officials, and civilians who helped stopped the country from being a communist country, a public opinion survey conducted by Tangere showed.

Tangere’s survey, which was conducted from Sept. 29 to 30, found that three out of four Filipinos are aware of Padilla’s bill seeking to declare Sept. 21 as Unsung Heroes Day to commemorate the lives lost in fighting the communist insurgency.

Moreover, 58 percent also agree with Padilla’s statement that Martial Law stopped the country from being a communist country.

“The sentiment is driven by respondents aged 18-35 (70 percent) who agreed with the narrative presented by Sen. Robin Padilla on Martial law, while 51 percent of respondents age 36 and up agreed with Sen. Padilla,” Tangere said.

The public opinion poll, which had a sample size of 2,400 participants, was conducted using a mobile-based respondent application.

The proportion was distributed throughout the Philippines, with 12 percent from the National Capital Region, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
