Hoffman, Frank share added motivation in Asian Games 2023 stint

Lauren Hoffman and Angel Frank will have a busy week as they compete for the Philippines in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Of the two, Hoffman already saw action on Monday, Oct. 2, in the Women’s 400-M hurdles, finishing second behind Mo Jiadie of China, and will be back in action in the team relay alongside the 22-year-old Frank who traces her roots to Southern Leyte.

However, one thing that fueled both was when they heard about the medal drought in Philippine athletics. Hoffman admits that this is added motivation on her end to go all out once she performs.

“I know there’s been a medal drought, Iike it has been years that there hasn’t been an athletic medal. Those were very shocking facts to read. I have confidence in ourselves and confidence in our teammates to get a medal of some kind,” the 24-year-old said.

Even before EJ Obiena bagged the gold medal, Hoffman and Frank were already confident that it would happen. Now, it is their turn together with the rest of the Philippine athletics team to follow Obiena’s lead.

“I have confidence in our relays and our individual events. I think Robyn (Brown) and I can get a few medals in the hurdles and that is one event alone. With our efforts combined, I think we are going to get some medals here,” Hoffman stated.

Frank agreed with Hoffman as far as being motivated to do their best.

“I agree with her [Hoffman]. I think we are all motivated to do our best and we are willing to do what it takes to win,” Frank added.

With a busy week ahead, Hoffman and Frank reiterated how important it is for them to win an Asian Games medal.

“We want a medal for ourselves, we want a medal for our team and we want a medal for the Philippines. The medals are bigger than us. It’s representative of where we are taking the sport. We are not just here to compete. We are here to win medals,” Hoffman, who hails from Navotas, ended.
