DMW warns public vs massive illegal recruitment for non-existent jobs in Italy
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is now coordinating with other government agencies in the conduct of investigation into the rampant illegal recruitment schemes targeting Filipinos who plan to work in Italy.
Last week alone, the DMW reported that there were around 100 victims who sought the assistance of various law enforcement agencies for charging them with exorbitant placement and consultancy fees for jobs that turned out to be non-existent.
“The DMW is coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila and the Philippine Consulate General in Milan (PCG-Milan), and our Migrant Workers Office in Milan (MWO-Milan) in the investigation of alleged perpetrator agencies and individuals both in Italy and the Philippines,” the department said in a statement.
“The DMW will put the full force of the law to bear on unscrupulous individuals and organizations and seek justice for victimized overseas Filipino workers (OFWs),” it added.
The DMW then warned the public not to fall into the modus and go to registered recruitment agencies instead.
It also urged other victims of illegal recruitment to contact the DMW and report the offenses committed against them to facilitate the filing of appropriate cases: Facebook page of Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) at https://www.facebook.com/airbranch or email at [email protected] and also through hotline number +63 2 8721-0619.
