12 families evacuated after houses collapse in Tondo

Around 12 families evacuated after houses collapsed in Isla Bungad and Isla Puting Bato, Barangay 20 in Tondo, Manila on Sunday, Oct. 1.
According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRMO), the incident was due to strong waves caused by heavy downpours recently.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported that the houses, made of light materials, were submerged in seawater around 5 p.m.
Rescue crews arrived at the scene around 7 p.m.
Affected families are temporarily sheltered at the Delpan Evacuation Center.
Authorities said that no one was reportedly injured.
The city government said the area where the collapsed houses were initially situated is part of the national government's Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.
Authorities are still discussing the plan for residents and coordinating with the national government about the housing projects.
