Wife of candidate for village chair in Abra rescued from kidnappers
BANGUED, Abra – A few hours before a candidate for barangay kagawad or councilor was shot dead in Bucay, Abra, the wife of a candidate for barangay chairman in Bucay was allegedly abducted in Parañaque City on Wednesday morning, October 18, to force her husband to withdraw from the elections.

A report from officer-on-case Police Chief Master Sgt. Rolly Iglesia of the Parañaque police identified the victim as Bliss Progreso Loy, 46, a teacher of the Col. E. de Leon Elementary School in Barangay Moonwalk, Parañaque and resident of Multinational Village, Barangay Moonwalk.
Loy is the wife of Benjamin Loy, a candidate for chairman in Barangay Abang, Bucay.
Bliss was on board a motorcycle with her siblings on Matthew St., Barangay Moonwalk, when two men on board a motorcycle blocked their path at 5:40 a.m. She was forcibly taken inside a black van with license plates ABR-5730.
In a recorded phone conversation with Loy’s relative in Bucay, the kidnappers told him that they want to talk to Benjamin within an hour or else his wife would be buried alive.
The kidnapping was reported the police who rescued Bliss hours later.
Days before she was abducted, their house in Bucay was reportedly ransacked by unknown individuals.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footages to identify the suspects.
On Wednesday morning, a candidate for barangay kagawad was gunned down in Sitio Nagpasinan, Barangay Bangbangcag, Bucay.
The victim, Catalino Turalba Sr., 52, from Barangay Bangbangcag, was on board a motorcycle with his son when armed men shot him twice.
Turalba was taken to a hospital where he died.
