Sixth suspect in hazing death of criminology student surrenders to QCPD

Another fraternity member tagged in the hazing death of criminology student Ahldryn Leary Bravante turned himself in to the police on Thursday, Oct. 19.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said John Arvin Kaylle Regualos Diocena is now in the custody of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) after he voluntarily surrendered to the police with the assistance of his aunt.

Diocena is the 6th fraternity member who were placed under police custody for alleged involvement in the initiation rites that led to the death of Bravante, 25, a fourth-year student of the Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR).

The victim was unconscious with severe injuries when he was rushed to the Chinese General Hospital in Manila by two fraternity members on Monday, Oct. 16.

Responding Manila Police District operatives took Justine Artates Cantillo, 25, and Kyle Cordeta De Castro, 21, into custody after the two claimed the victim had been taken to the hospital after the fraternity initiation rites.

The suspects identified themselves as members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity - PCCR Chapter.

 Police report showed that the hazing took place next to an abandoned building near a condominium on Calamba Street in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City, around 2 p.m. on the same day.

Based on an initial examination, police said Bravante had hematoma on both legs and burn marks from cigarettes on his chest and both hands.

The six suspects -- Diocena, Cantillo, De Castro, Lexter Manarpies, Mark Leo Andales, and John Xavier Clidoro Arcosa -- are all students of Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR).

QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said that they have identified 10 other suspects involved in Bravante’s death, and they are now subject of a police manhunt.

The suspects will be charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) 8049 or the Anti-Hazing Law as amended by RA 11053 (Anti-Hazing Act of 2018) and robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code, QCPD said.
