LTO warns motorists vs driving vehicles with defective accessories

The Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) warned on Thursday Oct, 19., all motorists to refrain from driving cars and motorcycles with defective accessories to avoid road accidents.

LTO-NCR director Roque Verzosa III said a total of 587 motorists out of the 3,047 of those apprehended in the third quarter of 2023, were collared for driving motor vehicles with faulty accessories, devices, equipment, and parts.

These, he said, are in violation of the provisions of Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of Republic Act 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

“Driving motor vehicles with faulty or malfunctioning components could endanger not only the driver of the vehicle and their passengers but also other motorists,” said Verzosa.

LTO-NCR data also disclosed that an additional 574 motorists were for violating various offenses, including failing to carry the OR/CR (Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration) operating an unregistered motor vehicle, reckless driving and ignoring traffic signs.

Verzosa reported that they apprehended a total of 587 motorists for not wearing the prescribed seat belt device, for not wearing the standard protective motorcycle helmet, for violating the R.A. 10666, or the Children Safety on Motorcycle Act, and for using cellular phones while driving.

LTO-NCR Assistant Regional Director Hanzley H. Lim, who concurrently oversees the Regional Law Enforcement Service (RLES), revealed that 1,073 motorists received education on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
