Fernandez expressed sympathy and provided financial assistance to Garcia’s family during a simple program on Thursday, October 19, led by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as the OFW’s remains were transferred to Barangay Bonuan Boquig here from Awai, San Jacinto, Pangasinan.
Fernandez called Garcia a hero who sacrificed to work abroad and work hard for her family.
"This is particularly a difficult and painful time for her family and friends. As city mayor of Dagupan where Marjorette was born and lived, we extend to her family and friends to our heartfelt condolences, and we wish them courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss," Fernandez said.
Garcia, from Barangay Bonuan Boquig, resided with her husband in San Jacinto with their two children, Jake Moises, 9, and May Jee, 6, before she was deployed to Saudi Arabia on October 17, 2021.
"In these difficult times, we take our hats off to Marjorette and all OFWs around the world for their selfless sacrifices. We know that Filipino workers like Marjorette are honored and celebrated in the countries where they are found for their hard work and dedication because they all help the world economy remain afloat," Fernandez added.
On October 14 in San Jacinto, Fernandez joined OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio, Department of Migrant Workers officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia, Gov. Ramon Guico III, Vice Gov. Mark Lambino, and OWWA Regional Director Gerardo Rimorin during a solemn tribute to Garcia.
