Civil engineer crowned Miss U PH-Leyte


PALO, Leyte – A 24-year-old civil engineer from the municipality of La Paz, this province, was crowned as the first Miss Universe Philippines-Leyte on Wednesday, October 18, here.

Angel Rose Campo Tambal bested 21 candidates from 18 municipalities and three cities in Leyte. 

Tambal also bagged two major awards – Best in Swimwear and Best in Evening Gown.

She will represent the province in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant next year.

Although she was one of the frontrunners, Tambal said she was surprised to win since her co-candidates were equally beautiful and intelligent.

"I am just really blessed because all of us have sacrificed a lot to represent our municipalities and cities and I was the one chosen," she said.

Tambal advocates empowerment of the community through sustainable tourism which she plans to bring to the Miss Universe Philippines Organization.

She is the reigning Miss DPWH-8 and was  crowned Binibining La Paz Viajedores in 2018.

Jamby Belegorio of Tacloban City was crowned Miss Philippines-Leyte, Trisha Gabrielle Moreto of Tanauan won first runner-up, Nesylvie Dupal of Mahaplag was second runner-up, and Marrianne Niel Insigne of Barugo was third runner-up.

Local pageant fans lauded B Creative Productions, the MUPH accredited partner, for bringing a world-class show in Leyte. 

The coronation night was attended by MUPH national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Creative Partnership Team Inc. president Lloyd Lee, and other MUPH officials.
