Cebu Pacific, Neste partner for sustainable aviation fuel supply
Cebu Pacific of JG Summit Holdings has partnered with Finland-based oil refining company Neste to explore and buy sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as the airline aims to fulfill its sustainability goals.
Cebu Pacific Chief Strategy Officer Alex Reyes and Neste Asia-Pacific Renewable Aviation Acting Executive Vice President Sami Jauhiainen signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the SAF supply.

The partnership is in line with Cebu Pacific's greening initiatives to comply with the global aviation industry’s objective to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, along with providing sustainable travel options for passengers while reducing the environmental costs of conventional jet fuel.
“Carbon emissions are a pressing concern in the aviation industry. To this end, Cebu Pacific has laid out initiatives to address our emissions footprint, with a primary focus on integrating SAF in its operations. This will consequently minimize the environmental impact generated from our flights,” said Reyes.
The airline said it seeks to transition to an all-new engine option (NEO) fleet by 2028, and use blended SAF for all of its flights by 2030.
According to Neste, its SAF is produced from “100 percent renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste,” processed as an alternative fuel that can potentially reduce air travel’s greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent.
As the “world’s leading producer of SAF,” Neste said it has a current production capability of 1 million tons per annum, and is expected to grow to 1.5 million tons per annum in 2024.
“We are proud that we are going to support Cebu Pacific’s commitment to reduce their environmental impact by using our Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and we look forward to build the cooperation with CEB in the future,” said Jauhiainen.
Cebu Pacific had begun utilizing blended SAF to power its first passenger flight from Singapore to Manila last September 2022, becoming the first Philippine and Southeast Asian airline to incorporate SAF for its commercial flights.
Another SAF-powered commercial flight from Tokyo, Japan to Manila will be conducted on Oct. 25, 2023.
