A member of the Las Piñas City Police, who is set to get married on Friday, Oct. 20, was arrested for illegal discharge of firearm and grave threat on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Col. Jaime Santos, city police chief, said the suspect, a certain Cpl. Castaneda, assigned to Las Piñas Police Substation 5, was arrested at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at Rebecca Compound, Almanza Dos, Las Piñas City.

Santos said Castaneda will face illegal discharge of firearm and grave threat charges, and severe administrative sanction.

Prior to Castaneda’s arrest, the police received a complaint from a concerned citizen about a man who fired his gun three to five times at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The city police chief said an hour later, they received a complaint from a certain Diomedes against the policeman.

The complainant claimed that while he was attending to his tricycle, he was approached by the suspect, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, and poked his service firearm at him.

Diomedes said he pleaded and later scuffled with the policeman until he managed to get hold of the gun which he immediately turned over to the barangay outpost.

Santos said members of the Las Piñas Police Substation 6 responded to the incident and immediately arrested Castaneda and confiscated his service firearm.

The service firearm of Castaneda was brought at the Southern Police District Forensic Unit for ballistic examination while the suspect was subjected to a paraffin test.

The city police chief, when asked about the wedding plan of the suspect, said that they will ask permission if Castaneda and his fiancée will be allowed to get married at the police station.
