CAVITE – At least three luxury cars were seen parading as part of an aspiring barangay chairman’s campaign motorcade in Bacoor City on Thursday, Oct. 19.
In a report for DZRH News, journalist Edniel Parrosa’s video showed sports cars of varying colors along Molino Road bearing tarpaulins of a candidate for barangay chairman named Jovelyn Arevalo Tagle.
The report says the drivers did not know the candidate personally, but they were tasked to be part of the motorcade.
In an interview with the Manila Bulletin, Tagle said she did not know who owned the vehicles.
“Sabi ng mga kasama ko, may Lamborghini. Sabi ko, ano'ng Lamborghini? Kanino kako ‘yan? (My companions told me, there is a Lamborghini. I said, 'What Lamborghini? Whose car is that?’ I said),” Tagle recounted.
According to the candidate, they were distributing posters in the area when the cars joined them.
“Akala ko mga nagdaan lang 'yun doon tapos umikot kami nakasunod sila sa amin. Hindi ko alam kung sino ang sakay noon. Baka natuwa lang silang makiparada o maki-join sa parade. Sa dami ng supporters, hindi na namin alam kung kanino 'yun (I thought they were only passing by, but when we were going around, they came behind us. I do not know who was in the cars. Maybe they just wanted to join the parade. There were a lot of supporters and we do not know whose cars those are).”
In a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Bacoor assistant election officer Analiza Ortiz said volunteers are free to use their private cars to join campaign motorcades and doing so does not violate any regulation.
