5,000 candidates start campaign for BSKE in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Nearly 5,000 candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) here started campaigning on Thursday, October 19.

The Commission on Elections said 289 individuals are running for barangay captain in the 98 barangays here.

A total of 2,696 persons are running for barangay kagawad or councilor, 281 for Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, and 1,567 for Sangguniang Kabataan kagawad.

Mayor John Dalipe here  asked candidates and the public to follow election rules and regulations.

He advised candidates to impart to the voters a good platform and be honest in their campaign as this will be their  gauge on who is principled and who will serve them with integrity.

Comelec District Election Officer Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete  reminded candidates to follow election rules to avoid  sanctions.

He asked them to observe rules on common poster areas and not to distribute tokens such as caps, umbrellas, ballpens, scarves, and other items as this constitutes vote-buying.
