The Philippines will be fielding 159 athletes when it hosts the 22nd Asia Masters Athletics Championships on Nov. 8 to 12 in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
Among the notable athletes competing in this biennial event are former national team members Arniel Ferrera, Danilo Fresnido, Eduardo Buenavista, Sean Guevarra and Emerson Obiena, father of world No. 2 pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
“We are grateful and honored to be hosting this event for the first time and we believe our athletes can deliver medals for our country,” said National Masters and Seniors Athletics Association of the Philippines (NMSAAP) President Jose Ang Jr.
Around 1,400 athletes from 22 countries are expected to participate in the tournament for athletes aged 30 years old and above.
There would be an age grouping of five-year gaps in different track and field events.
The last edition was held in 2019 in Kuching, Malaysia. Jakarta, Indonesia was supposed to host the 22nd edition in 2021, but returned the right to organize the event to the Asia Masters Athletics (AMA) due to the pandemic.
