Mendoza vows to address contractualization in LTO; 800 plantilla positions to be made available
Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza II has committed to address contractualization amid the prevalence of job order mode of employment in one of the high-earning agencies of the government.
In pushing for the stop of Job Order at the LTO, Mendoza said he wants to ensure security of tenure for a large number of LTO employees who remain under contractual employment, saying this is also in line with the target of the Marcos administration.
“Our goal here is to end this system of job order or contractualization because personally, I find it unfair job considering that a number of employees working as job orders have already spent years and were found to be hard working and dedicated to their jobs,” said Mendoza.
Currently, Mendoza said they are reviewing the number of Job Orders in the LTO and how many of these employees could be tapped to fill up the 800 plantilla positions that were allowed to be opened by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
According to Mendoza, some of the LTO employees serving under job order posts often have no assurance on whether they will keep their jobs or not.
“We want to address these so that we can also wipe out the Job Order mode of employment wherein the employees have to renew their employment contract every three months,” said Mendoza.
“A lot of our Job Order employees have already spent years in the LTO as Job Order so we want to focus on those things already,” he added.
