ICTSI breaks ground for new East Java terminal

The  International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) in partnership with Indonesian-owned firm East Log Holdings broke ground for the new “state-of-the-art” East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT) in Indonesia.

The EJMT, a joint venture project of ICTSI and East Log Holdings that specializes in offshore oil and gas supply bases, aims to serve customers in the hinterlands of Lamongan, Tuban, and central Java by handling containerized, breakbulk and project cargo.

The new terminal features a 300-meter quay line, breakwater, super heavy lift breakbulk deck, and dredging of the navigational channel to 13.5 meters, supported by two post-Panamax mobile harbor cranes and other cargo handling equipment.”

Indonesian construction and engineering company PT.PP (Persero) is leading the construction of the EJMT, which is expected to begin operations in September 2024.

The groundbreaking ceremony last Oct. 12 was attended by Indra Jadi Simanjuntak of PT. PP; Bambang of PT. Lamongan Integrated Shorebase; EJMT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Chan; Gerard Langes, ICTSI Business Development head of the APAC region and the Philippines; PT Eastern Logistics CEO David Lim, and Muh Harda of KUPP Brondong.

Langes said the ICTSI is “pleased to continue its growth by adding EJMT to its global portfolio.”

“By building positive relationships with stakeholders, ICTSI is contributing to the sustainable economic and social well-being of the local community,” added Langes.

Chan remarked that they are excited about the “new and more accessible gateway for the hinterlands.”

“Catering to an already thriving industry with this new investment, EJMT is well-positioned to support the growing economy of East Java and Indonesia,” said Chan.

Lim, who heads the main operating company of the Lamongan Shorebase, said “the development of EJMT will provide domestic and international access to our existing and new customers, who will also benefit from the reduced overall supply chain costs.”

“Lamongan Shorebase has been operating and supporting oil and gas customers since 2006. The heavy lift deck will allow us to support the upcoming project developments in Eastern Indonesia, as well as receive decommissioned platforms,” Lim explained.
