BANGUED, Abra – A candidate for kagawad or barangay councilor in Barangay Bangbangcag, Bucay, Abra, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Sitio Nagpasingan, Barangay Bangbangcag, Bucay on Tuesday, October 17.

Police Corporal Vicsyd D. Manuel, Bucay police investigator, identified the victim as Catalino M. Turalba Sr.
Invetigation said the victim, together with his son and namesake, were on board a motorcycle toward their barangay when the still unidentified suspects on board a black motorcycle shot him with a pistol.
The suspects fled to an unknown direction and the victim was rushed to a hospital in Dolores, Abra where he died on arrival.
Suspects are being pursued by policemen.
The incident alarmed Abra residents but the peace and order situation in the province is still manageable, said Cordillera police director Police Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo.
Measures have been implemented to maintain peace and order in Abra, including deployment of 130 policemen, added Peredo.
The Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command is sending more soldiers to Abra, said Nolcom spokesman Major Al B. Pueblas.
“Depende sa density ng threat sa area (Depends on the threat density in the area). If the threat further worsens, more will be sent there,” Pueblas said.
