Soldier wounded in Batangas clash

LOBO, Batangas – A soldier was wounded in an encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Bignay here on Monday morning, October 16.

He was identified as Private Artemio Avila of the Army 59th Infantry Battalion.

Troops were conducting a follow-up operation when they encountered an undetermined number of communist guerrillas from Sinag 1, Sub-Regional Military Area 4-C, under “Ka Arya.”

The NPA reportedly sustained an undetermined number of casualties.

This encounter was the third between government forces and the NPA in Barangays Guinhawa, Taysan, and Bignay, this town. The first two happened on October 12 and 15.
