QCPD chief says transport strike 'generally peaceful'
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said the first day of the transport strike in the city held by transport groups on Monday, Oct. 16, was “generally peaceful.”
Maranan said there were no recorded violence or untoward incidents related to the transport strike.
According to the police chief, the intensified presence of police officers who were deployed and the support and efforts of the local government helped in maintaining peace and order during the transport strike.

The QCPD also established checkpoints to ensure the safety of rally participants and commuters.
The city police deployed “Libreng Sakay” trucks to ferry stranded passengers in the city especially the students as no city-wide suspension of classes was implemented by the city government.
The nationwide transport strike was conducted by different transport groups from Oct. 16-17,in protest of alleged corruption in the franchise of public utility vehicles (PUV), and the PUV Modernization program that aims to replace traditional jeepneys with new and eco-friendly vehicles.
“I guarantee to everyone that the entire force of QCPD is always prompt in the implementation of its public safety and security plan throughout,” Maranan said.
He also commended his personnel for being organized and equipped in patrolling and monitoring their areas of responsibility to maintain peace and order and prevent any untoward incident.
The police chief also thanked the city government for the successful deployment of service vehicles to aid stranded commuters during the transport strike.
