Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan has vowed to locate all the individuals involved in the hazing death of criminology student Ahldryn Lery Chua Bravante.
Maranan issued his statement as he expressed his condolences to the family of Bravante, a fourth-year student at the Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR).
Bravante died after undergoing fraternity initiation rites beside an abandoned building in Quezon City on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
“Nais kong ipahayag ang aking pakikiramay sa pagpanaw ni Ahldryn Bravante dahil sa hazing o initiation rites (I would like to express my condolences for the passing of Ahldryn Bravante due to hazing or initiation rites),” he said.
According to Maranan, four suspects involved in the incident are now under the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) custody.
A thorough investigation is being conducted as the search for other participants in the fatal hazing continues.
He added that the suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 11053, also known as the Anti-Hazing Law of 2018.
The QCPD chief reminded the public that hazing carries a penalty of life imprisonment.
“Nais kong ipaalala sa lahat na ang hazing ay isang krimen na nagtataglay ng parusang habang buhay na pagkakabilanggo or reclusion perpetua and a fine ranging from P2 million to P3 million shall be imposed upon those who actually planned or participated in the hazing if, as a consequence of the hazing, death, rape, sodomy, or mutilation results therefrom (I want to remind everyone that hazing is a crime that carries a penalty of life imprisonment or reclusion perpetua and a fine ranging from P2 million to P3 million shall be imposed upon those who actually planned or participated in the hazing if, as a consequence of the hazing, death, rape, sodomy, or mutilation results therefrom),” he said.
He assured that they will find all the individuals involved in the crime.
Ang QCPD ay masigasig na hahanapin at tutugisin lahat ng sangkot sa krimen na ito (QCPD is determined to search and pursue all those involved in this crime),” he said.
“Ito ay magsilbing isang aral at patuloy na magbunsod ng mga kinakailangang pagbabago sa loob ng mga fraternity at organisasyon (This should serve as a lesson and continue to promote the necessary changes within fraternities and organizations),” he added.
Maranan also stated that the fraternity members must be responsible for upholding the true spirit of brotherhood and being role models in the society.
