Kin of Negrense OFW killed in Hamas attack receives DSWD aid
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office 6 (Western Visayas) has reached out to the bereaved family of Loreta Villarin Alacre, the third overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, who was killed on Oct. 7 during the Hamas attack along the Gaza border in southern Israel.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian was informed by DSWD-Western Visayas Regional Director Carmelo Nochete that as of Oct. 14, the field office had already provided an initial cash aid of P40,000 to Alacre’s immediate family members.
The financial assistance includes P10,000 in food subsidy, P10,000 in cash aid for the parent sibling of the deceased OFW, and P20,000 in educational assistance for Alacre’s two nephews, who are college students.
“DSWD Field Office social workers continue to monitor and assess the situation of the family in order to extend other appropriate interventions that they may need as they go through this difficult period,” Nochete said.
He also said the field office is exploring the possibility of providing livelihood assistance to Alacre’s family through the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program.
DSWD has also provided support to the families of Paul Vincent Castelvi and Angelyn Aguirre, who were killed during the initial attack of Hamas militants.
Gatchalian earlier said the DSWD is prepared to assist Filipino migrant workers who will be repatriated from Israel and Palestine due to the escalating conflict between the Israeli government and Hamas rebels.
