House Speaker Martin Romualdez (Speaker’s office)
The 57-strong Partylist Coalition Foundation Inc. (PCFI) in the House of Representatives has praised Speaker Martin Romualdez for his "dedication to defending and elevating the House".
In a statement, the Ako-Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co-led coalition expressed its "gratitude for the exemplary leadership" of Romualdez.
"Foremost is our sincere appreciation for his defense of the institution, ensuring the rightful representation of 300 legislators as mandated by the Constitution," it said.
"Under Speaker Romualdez's guidance and inspiration, the House has achieved an unprecedented highest approval rating in its history, transforming it into one of the nation's most respectable institutions," the statement read.
"It is also imperative to underscore Speaker Romualdez's dedication to defending and elevating the House of Representatives. The House has flourished under his supervision, as shown in numerous metrics that reflect his strategic and resilient administration," said the PCFI.
The statement was released following former president Rodrigo Duterte's tirades against Congress and Romualdez last week.
One of the things that irked the ex-president was the House's removal of the confidential funds of his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.
But the PCFI said this rationalization of confidential funds in the 2024 national budget--which involved a total of 11 agencies--was one of Romualdez's "extraordinary actions".
"Among his extraordinary actions was the transfer of confidential funds from several civilian agencies to bolster the protection of the West Philippine Sea (WPS). This decision showcases his prudent and thoughtful approach, echoing our commitment as representatives to listen and respond to the voices of our kababayan," the coalition said.
"Speaker Romualdez has undeniably placed our institution on the right side of history," it added.
"Because of all these and more, the PCFI reaffirms its support for Speaker Romualdez's continued leadership," the PCFI said.
