The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is now preparing criminal charges against a man who posed as enforcer of the agency to allegedly extort money from motorists in Quezon City.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said one of the charges being prepared is usurpation of authority against Jurdinito Rid Macula who was caught by a motorist whom he tried to extort in Cubao on Saturday night.
The motorist immediately pounced on Macula after the former refused to show his identification card and failed to prove that he is allowed to be on duty at night.
Macula reportedly claimed that he is an LTO enforcer assigned to the National Capital Region and flagged down the victim for allegedly using an unauthorized side mirror.
A verification made by LTO-National Capital Region Regional Director Roque Verzosa III revealed that Macula is not anyway connected with the agency.
Mendoza also urged all motorists to immediately report any extortion and other illegal activities being conducted using the name of the LTO, whether the perpetrator is an imposter or an employee of the agency.
“We do not tolerate any form of illegal activity. So I am urging all our motorists to immediately inform us about any illegal activity and I assure you of our immediate action,” said Mendoza.
He also urged all the other victims of Macula to file charges.
