DTI to establish a national innovation hub

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is set to establish the DTI Innovation Gateway in Manila as an epicenter for government, enterprises, and academia collaboration through various research and innovation facilities.

The DTI Innovation Center is part of the DTI’s collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Promoting Research and Innovation to Strengthen Transformation of Industries and Enterprises (PRISTINE) Project which aims to improve the innovation ecosystem and establish applied R&D, skills development, and innovation infrastructure.

DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual emphasized the importance of collaboration among the government, industry, and academic sectors in pursuing innovation and technological development in the country during the Government-University-Industry Leaders’ (GUILd) Summit 2023 on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Batangas State University.

“Ultimately, we envision the Gateway as a symbiotic living laboratory for innovation, invention, and creativity that places the Philippines at the forefront of open innovation,” Pascual said.

Additionally, the hub “will make Manila a center of international collaborative innovation” as it will host various research and innovation facilities.

These include: an Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory; the National Center for AI Research; an MSME innovation academy; space for academic institutions and think tanks for forward-thinking education and tech policies; and one-stop shop for government solutions to business and investor concerns.

"The DTI Innovation Gateway in Manila will house fledgling startups and startup ecosystem players, offer one-stop government solutions for businesses, and attract banks, venture capitals, accelerators, incubators collaborating with tech startups for the next unicorns, foster collaboration with researchers and innovators for forward-thinking tech policies, among others,” Pascual added.
