DOLE reminds employers of wages for October, November holidays
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday, Oct. 16 reminded employers to follow the payment of wages for those who will report for work on the official non-working days.
DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said that the “no work, no pay” policy will be in effect for Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, and the observation of All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2).
Based on the Labor Advisory signed by Laguesma, employees would be entitled to an additional 30 percent of their basic wage if they preferred to work.
“For work done during the special day that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 50% of his/her basic wage on the first eight hours of work (Basic wage x 150%),“ the advisory read.
On Nov. 27, declared as a regular holiday for the Bonifacio Day, it also specified the proper computation of wages for employees who will report to work.
Nonetheless, an employee who reports for work during the special holiday shall be paid an extra 30 percent of the basic wage on the first eight hours of work.
If the employee works in excess of eight hours will be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on said day.
For employees who would not report for work, they are entitled to get their basic wage x 100 percent, provided they are on paid vacation the day before the regular holiday. (Trixee Rosel)
