The congresswoman who defended the Office of the Vice President's (OVP) budget during the recent budget process has declared her continued trust in the leadership of House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Maria Carmen Zamora said in a Facebook post Monday, Oct. 16.
(Amid all the issue being hurled right now at the House of Representatives, I would like to express my full support and my continued trust in my colleagues in Congress, under the leadership of Speaker Martin Romuladez.)
Zamora was alluding to the tirades against Congress and Romualdez made last week by former president Rodrigo Duterte during a television interview.
Ex-president Duterte is the father of Vice President Sara Duterte. Zamora, in her capacity as vice chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations, defended the OVP budget in the presence of Vice President Duterte last Sept. 27 during the House plenary debates.
Via his signature tough talk, the elder Duterte slammed the House for removing his daughter's confidential funds under the proposed P5.768-trillion national budget for 2024. He accused Romualdez of orchestrating the attacks against Vice President Duterte.
The former chief executive even said that Congress--the "most rotten institution in the country", according to him--needs to be audited in order to show Filipinos how taxpayers' money is spent.
"I stand with the House of Representatives," Zamora said.

(The institution that's being assailed is the same institution that has led in ensuring the construction of the needed infrastructure, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges; allocation of funds for different social services, scholarship-, medical assistance, and other things.)
Referring to the House leadership, the Mindanao solon said: "Mas makatarungan ang pamimigay ng mga alokasyong nararapat sa bawat distrito.
(There is more justice in the distribution of allocations per district. Now, the industrious congressmen are rewarded for their work in Congress and in their district, and they are able to get the funds that are due to them.)
(Amid these issues, we in the House of Representatives will continue to work according to our duty and we will endeavor to achieve our promise of a comfortable life.)
