The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) led by Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan has announced that the city police will offer "Libreng Sakay" to all commuters in the city who will be affected by the nationwide transport strike on Monday, Oct. 16.

According to the QCPD, the Manibela transport group organized the transport strike in in protest of the government's Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Program which includes the phase-out of traditional jeepneys by the end of the year.
The group added that only three Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) groups participated in the strike.
Majority of PUJs will continue to serve the public's transportation needs.

The local government will also provide regular "libreng sakay" on specific routes.
The QCPD Public Information Office said it has not received any report of commuters being stranded.

Trucks and buses of the QCPD will be used in the “Libreng Sakay.”
The QCPD also assured enhanced police visibility and checkpoints to ensure peace and order.

“Sinisigurado natin na ang mga maaapektuhan sa nasabing transport strike ay mabibigyan natin nang 'Libreng Sakay' lalong-lalo na ang mga estudyante at mga manggagawa na walang masakyan. Ang buong kapulisan ng QCPD ay buong pusong magbibigay serbisyo dahil ang kapakanan at kaligtasan ng bawat mamamayan ng Lungsod Quezon ang aming uunahin (We assure those who will be affected by the transport strikethat we will provide "Libreng Sakay,' especially to students. The entire QCPD will ensure the welfare and safety of every citizen of Quezon City),” Maranan said.
