Isabela 1st district Rep. Tonypet Albano says he is standing by the leadership of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, which the Commission on Audit (COA) recently gave a spotless record to.
"The House of Representatives, under the able leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, does not have any confidential funds. And we stand by his leadership which has a recent COA report of 'no disallowances'," Albano said in a Facebook post Sunday night, Oct. 15.
The post came with a statement from House Secretary General Reginald Velasco which said that the COA itself, as per an Oct. 2 audit report, found no disallowances, no notice of suspension, and no notice of charge against the House under Romualdez.
"We hope that this should calm the speculations and disinformation about Congress as institution," Albano said.
The veteran congressman further said that under Romualdez, the House has been "consistent in creating legislation that is pro poor, for economic progress and stability, for meaningful and equitable laws, and more".
"Let’s pray that all government agencies become a catalyst for good. And that all the leaders and workers of all government institutions, especially led by our President Marcos, and for us congressmen our Speaker Romualdez, be guided and protected by the Holy Spirit," added the majority lawmaker.
Velasco released the particular statement last week as a response to for president Rodrigo Duterte's remarks that Congress needs to be audited to find out how taxpayers' money was spent.
Duterte--who served as Davao congressman from 1998 to 2001--also tagged Congress as “the most rotten institution” in the country.
