Malabon gov't cancels classes amid transport strike
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has suspended in-person classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the city on Monday, Oct. 18, due to the transport strike by several transport groups.
The nationwide transport strike, led by Manibela, is expected to be held from Monday to Tuesday, Oct. 17.

The local government said that since in-person classes are cancelled on Monday, online/modular distance learning will be implemented for the learners to continue their studies.
It will also deploy service vehicles to the city’s main roads to provide free rides to stranded commuters.
Local government offices will remain open.
Commuters who will be stranded along the city’s roads were advised to coordinate with the city government through the emergency contact numbers posted on its Facebook page.
In Valenzuela, the local government also deployed “Libreng Sakay” trucks to assist passengers in the city.
It said that the public utility vehicles are still traversing different routes in the city as of 7 a.m. on Monday.
The transport strike by several transport groups is in protest against the alleged corruption in the franchise of public utility vehicles (PUV) and the phase-out of traditional jeepneys required by the PUV Modernization Program.
The program aims to replace traditional jeepneys with eco-friendly vehicles.
