Gov't readies financial aid to families of Pinoys killed in Israel-Hamas war

Nearly P300,000 worth of cash and other assistance will be extended by the government to each of the families of the Filipinos who died due to the ongoing war between Israeli forces and the Hamas militants, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

The PCO said this after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that Filipinos have died due to the war in Israel that started over a week ago.
Citing a report from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to President Marcos, the PCO said the OWWA would provide P200,000 cash assistance for the bereaved family of the three Filipinos killed in the ongoing conflict.
Another P50,000 cash assistance would come from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
According to the PCO, the OWWA and the DMW will also provide wake and burial assistance of P20,000. The two agencies would shoulder repatriation and transportation costs from the airport to the OFW's home address in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the OWWA will provide P20,000 cash assistance to its inactive members, while the DMW will provide P50,000 in cash. This may be increased upon the instruction of President Marcos and DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
Aside from the financial assistance, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will assist in repatriating OFWs and affected Filipinos, shipment of remains, and provide welfare, medical, and hospital assistance, among others, while in other countries.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide transportation assistance from the airport to their home address in the Philippines and other welfare assistance. It will also extend financial assistance under its Crisis Situations Program.
President Marcos has ordered the relevant agencies to provide educational assistance to the children of the victims, livelihood assistance, and medical and psychological support to the victims and their families.
Meanwhile, Marcos directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to provide labor-matching services, skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling training programs to returning OFWs.
