DTI-Iloilo urges sustainable consumption

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Trade (DTI) has urged sustainable consumption in this city and the province of Iloilo.

“These are old concepts, but we are reminding everyone to practice sustainable consumption,” said DTI-Iloilo Director Maria Dinda Tamayo on Consumer Welfare Month.

With the theme  “GenS: Generation Sustainable,” DTI-Iloilo is pushing the 7Rs of sustainability: Rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, recycle, and repair.

Tamayo told the Manila Bulletin that DTI is incorporating environmental considerations in consumption, especially local products.

Dorita Chavez, DTI-Iloilo senior trade industry development specialist, said the advocacy is also being pushed not only to consumers but also to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DTI-Iloilo is boosting the advocacy against climate change by encouraging MSMEs to be more environmentally-friendly in their operations.

For instance, DTI-Iloilo said businesses should practice ways to conserve electricity and reduce waste.

DTI-Iloilo is taking the Consumer Welfare Month advocacy to three towns in Iloilo this week – Concepcion, Lambunao, and Zarraga.

The agency  wrapped up its annual Artesanias de Iloilo over the weekend.
