Parañaque mayor orders investigation of driver who used his name in parking space reserved for PWDs

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez ordered an investigation into a car owner who used his name to park in a parking space reserved for persons with disabilities (PWDs) on Oct. 7.

Olivarez said a GMC car owner illegally parked at a reserved parking space of S&R Sucat reserved for PWDs.

He said the actions done by the GMC car owner were not appropriate and that the owner must take accountability. 

The mayor said the city government already called the attention of the management of S&R Sucat to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. 

The mayor issued a statement after receiving multiple reports on the incident that the owner of the car used his name as an excuse and justified their action in using the reserved parking for PWDSs.

Olivarez clarified that he does not own a GMC car. He also said he was attending an event of the city government when the incident happened on Oct. 7.

The mayor said as a public servant for more than 16 years, he had been strictly carrying out his duties and responsibilities in accordance with the law and strictly complying with it.

Olivarez also said that he always ensures to exercise his public power responsibly, uphold ethical conduct and public service values, and promote the best interests of the public above personal interests.

He said that being a high-ranking official is not an excuse to use the power entrusted to us by the public for our personal gains or to receive special treatment as we are not exempted from the law nor above it.

The mayor added that the city government vehemently condemns any actions of public officials who are using their power to take unjust advantages. 

Olivarez condemns the people—may they be working in the government—who are misusing the names of public servants to justify their actions.

The mayor assures the public that the city government will take all necessary and prompt actions once they find out the owner is involved in such an incident—even if they are a public official or working in the city government.

Olivarez said the city government will take measures to prevent any further incidents in the future.
