Mechanic killed, helper hurt in knife attack

SAN JOSE, Batangas – A 26-year-old mechanic was stabbed dead and a 35-year-old helper was wounded by their friend during a heated argument in Barangay Bigain 2nd, this town, on Saturday night, October 14.

Police identified the victim as Edwin Macalintal, single, of Barangay Bigain 2nd.

Investigation said Macalintal, Ronald Cale, single, also of Barangay Bigain 2nd, and the suspect, Sofronio, were on their way home from a beach outing in Lemery, this province, when a heated argument erupted between the victim and Sofronio.

Sofronio stabbed Macalintal, prompting Cale to pacify the suspect, but he, too, was stabbed and wounded.

The suspect fled and the victims were taken to the hospital where Macalintal was declared dead and Cale under treatment.

Sofronio faces appropriate charges and the subject of a police manhunt.
