Manila LGU offers free rides amid transport strike

The Manila local government will deploy emergency vehicles and electric tricycles to provide "Libreng Sakay" or free rides to commuters who may be stranded due to the upcoming transport strike on Monday, Oct. 16.
The strike will be led by the transport groups Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) and Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees at Laborers (Manibela).
They are protesting for the mandatory jeepney franchise consolidation, which deadline is set on Dec. 31.
Several schools and university in Metro Manila have announced their shift to online classes amidst the strike.
The city government said the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) is in contact with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to monitor the upcoming transport strike.
It said the emergency vehicles will be placed in the areas affected by the transport strike.
