Harold Alarcon poured 21 points as University of the Philippines dominated the hapless University of Santo Tomas, 110-79, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Fighting Maroons remained as the only unscathed team in five outings after scoring the most lopsided win this season.
Alarcon delivered an all-game brilliance that also included four rebounds and four assists, while JD Cagulangan finished with an all-around effort of 16 points, two rebounds and nine assists.
Chicco Briones and Francis Lopez, for their parts, contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Down 18-21 in the first quarter, the Fighting Maroon went on a huge 35-14 run in the third en route to their biggest lead of the match of 37 points, 107-77, on a Briones jumper.
From then on, the gap has become too much for the Growling Tigers to recover from.
“We talked about ‘yong defense namin. Sa akin siguro we played well especially in the third quarter, iyon ‘yong nag define ng game namin,” UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde said.
Nic Cabanero and Christian Manaytay delivered huge numbers with 24 and 23 points, respectively, in the losing effort.
The Growling Tigers sank 0-5 in the standings and absorbed their 18-game losing skid.
