DSWD continues to support the grieving family of a Grade 5 student
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to help the family of Francis Jay Gumikib, a Grade 5 student who died 11 days after being allegedly slapped by his teacher in Antipolo City.

DSWD, in a statement issued Saturday, Oct. 14, said it continues to provide support to the family through its Calabarzon field office.
Aside from the P10,000 financial aid to cover the medical bills of the deceased student, the Gumikib family received a P50,000 burial assistance guarantee letter from the DSWD, as said by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and FO-4A Regional Director Barry Chua.
Office of Antipolo City 1st Congressional Rep. Roberto V. Puno also handed out a P10,000 cash aid to the family, according to DSWD Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez.
The DSWD said it has been on top of the 5th graders since Secretary Gatchalian ordered Director Chua to conduct case management for the grieving family as well as provide immediate financial assistance for the hospital and funeral expenses.
"To ensure the welfare of the bereaved family, we will closely coordinate with the authorities and concerned agencies," Lopez added.
The secretary also directed the Calabarzon Field Office to closely monitor the Gumikib family to provide psycho-social support and counseling as they continue to grieve the untimely loss of their son Francis Jay.
