Trough of LPA, northeasterly wind flow to bring rain showers over parts of PH
Rain showers may continue to affect parts of the country due to the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the northeasterly surface wind flow, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Oct. 13.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA, which was located 305 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan still has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
It may exit the country’s area of responsibility on Friday or Saturday, Oct. 14, he added.
However, Aurelio said the trough or extension of the LPA may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Occidental Mindoro and the northern part of Palawan in the next 24 hours.
PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides are possible during moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow, or the initial blast of cold winds coming from the northeast may bring light rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, and Abra.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers due to the trough of the LPA and localized thunderstorms.
The public is advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
