Standard Chartered Bank (Stanchart), the oldest international bank in the Philippines, is collaborating with PLDT Inc.'s subsidiary ePLDT to colocate its business operations to the VITRO data center.

The ePLDT VITRO, as described by PLDT, is the country’s "premiere data center network with the largest and most hyper connected data center site.” It boasts the largest data center footprint in the country with a service uptime of 99.99 percent.
ePLDT said it is “capable of supporting the bank’s stringent global colocation requirements as well as its track record and expertise in data center management and operations.”
ePLDT also highlighted its multi-cloud and data center solutions to help banks and other financial institutions transition to digitalization while maintaining standard banking operations and customer service.
The contract between Stanchart and ePLDT was signed last Oct. 10.
Among its signatories were Victor S. Genuino, CEO and President of ePLDT; Rowena Kapunan, Interim CEO of Stanchart; Ma. Christina Goco, Chief Technology and Operations Officer of Stanchart; Masayuki Fujimoto, Country Technology Manager of Stanchart; and Gary F. Ignacio, Chief Data Center Officer of ePLDT.
“We build robust and world-class hyperconnected data centers that enable enterprises for hypergrowth. Our commitment as the country’s leading digital transformation and data center partner of choice extends to finding ways to meet the demands and accommodate the unique requirements of our clients,” said Genuino.
“We place great importance in ensuring that our banking industry partners have a resilient network to support their organizations through ICT solutions from ePLDT,” said Mitch L. Locsin, First Vice President and Head of Enterprise and International Business Groups at PLDT and Smart.
Rowena Kapunan, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Stanchart said ePLDT has been a "reliable and dependable partner" in the bank's efforts to grow their presence and client-base in the country.
“The Philippines has been selected as the location of Standard Chartered Group Services Manila, Inc. (SCGS Manila), a highly specialized knowledge-based shared service centre of Standard Chartered Bank. This is part of our long-standing commitment to support the growth and development of the Philippines,” she said.
SCGS Manila is the fifth business service center of Stanchart in the world. It focuses on implementing the bank's business planning and management services through efficient delivery of products and services to clients globally.
Prior to the agreed upon colocation, Stanchart only had a client-server and critical applications on-premise function in VITRO.
PLDT said VITRO is just one of its most expansive digital infrastructures, and an example of the telecommunication company's capacity to establish bigger, interconnected fiber networks.
The company also announced that the largest and first hyperscale facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna will begin operations early 2024. This new data center will have a total capacity of 50MW and is already equipped with artificial intelligence technologies (AI).
