Scattered rain showers, thunderstorms to prevail over parts of PH
The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) and a super typhoon outside the country’s area of responsibility may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of the country in the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday afternoon, Oct. 13.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Davao Region.
PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides are possible during moderate to heavy rains.
The LPA was located 400 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, while the super typhoon with an international name Bolaven was estimated 2,455 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
These weather disturbances are not expected to have a direct impact on the country in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow, or the initial blast of cold winds from the northeast, may bring isolated light rains to Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, and Abra.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The public is advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
