Rain or Shine shrugged off a lethargic start and the ejection of head coach Yeng Guiao to come out on top against Phoenix, 109-105, in their preseason match in the 2023 Converge Pocket tournament at the Gatorade Hoops Center on Friday, Oct. 13.

The Elasto Painters trailed by as many as 17 points early in the contest before Guiao’s ejection which seemed to have ignited the fire on his wards as they seized control of the game beginning the second frame.
Guiao was tossed out of the contest with still 1:42 left in the opening frame after incurring back-to-back technical fouls for use of profane language and continuous complaining over a perceived non-call in the previous possession.
That might have worked wonders for the Elasto Painters though, unleashing a 41-22 second quarter run, highlighted by an 11-0 spurt to take the driver's seat at the break, 62-56.
Rain or Shine went on with its blistering run in the third frame and early fourth quarter, stretching its lead to as high as 15, 101-86, before surviving a late rally from the Fuel Masters who came within single digits in the waning seconds.
Import DaJuan Summers led Rain or Shine with 20 points while Rey Nambatac and Anton Asistio added 15 apiece. Rookie signing Sherwin Concepcion added 10 while fourth overall pick Keith Datu and Andrei Caracut added nine.
Import Jonathan Williams paced the Fuel Masters with 25 points and 11 rebounds while rookies Raffy Verano and Ken Tuffin got their feet wet to PBA action with 12 apiece
