Pinoy students top 2023 international science contest in Indonesia


Filipino students triumphed again, winning 22 medals and top honors in the 2023 International Science Competition, held Oct. 8 to 11 in Bogor City, Indonesia.

The Philippine team also secured the coveted title "Best Overall Delegation" after topping both the secondary and elementary divisions in the four-nation contest.
    
Aside from the Philippines and host Indonesia, students from Malaysia and Vietnam also took part in the West Java event.
    
Dr. Simon Chua, COO of the NGO Mathematics Trainers Guild Phils. (MTG) which trained the Filipino students, named the country's gold medalists as: Leonard Vash Cay from Xavier School-Nuvali; Reane Haley Wee and Lance Gabriel Madrazo, both from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School; Frank Tyrese Casco from University of San Agustin, and Chloe Pia Ysabel Valdoz from La Salle Greenhills.
    
The silver medalists are Anne Dorothy Madrazo from Timotheo Paez Elementary School; Mishael Oikos Chsn from St. Jude Catholic School; Savannah Lucia Sabbeen de Guaman from St. Paul College Pasig; Robby Gabriel Tiao from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School; Juan Alfredo Asperin from Phil. Science High School-Main Campus; Miguel Justino Ladion from Cebu International School, and Amanda Adria Maxene Co from St. Jude Catholic School.
    
The bronze medalists are Issaiah Sean Escobido from Iloilo Scholastic Academy; Heintj Job Esio from Pangasinan Universal Institute; Mathia Cate Artagame from Xavier School-Nuvali; Thomasse Jakob Leonardo from St. Joseph School-Naga City; Matthew Alfred Ly from Xavier School-Nuvali; Bayotlang Jefferson Nino from PSHS-Central Visayas Campus and Leigh Pauline Palomares from PSHS-Cagayan Valley Campus.
    
The merit medals winners are Kristina Isabella Sur from City Central School and Lief Christian Lantin and Jonvic Gabriel Castillo, both from Xavier School-Nuvali.
    
The country's junior secondary division was declared champion and first runner up while the elementary division was named overall champion, as well as first and second runners up in their respective contests.
    
Chua cited the delegation for the "bountiful harvest of medals" and for "making not just the students' families schools proud but also the entire nation."
