Converge leaned on a strong third quarter showing to repel Blackwater, 87-75, in the Converge preseason tournament on Friday, Oct. 13 – its first match since its controversial tuneup game last week.

The FiberXers found their groove on both ends of the floor in the third frame with guys like Jerrick Balanza, Keith Zaldivar and free agent Mark Tallo stepping up to help Converge erase an 11-point first half deficit.
Balanza, Zaldivar and Tallo combined for 19 of Converge’s 34 points in the telling quarter while also limiting the Bossing to just 16 points after they breached the 20-point quarter scoring mark in the first two frames.
Alec Stockton led the way for Converge with 13 points and six assists while import Thomas Vodanovich finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.
Tallo and Kevin Racal had 11 apiece while Balanza and Zaldivar chipped in nine and eight, respectively.
It was the first time the two teams faced each other since their tuneup game that was marred by an incident that saw Blackwater head coach Jeffrey Cariaso hold on to FiberXers’ guard Aljun Melecio to stop a Converge transition attack.
The Converge management elevated the incident to the PBA Office which then summoned and talked to Cariaso to get his side. The Blackwater coach apologized for his action but not after he was fined by the league by an undisclosed amount.
Import Chris Ortiz paced Blackwater with 22 points while Mike Digregorio added 13. The Bossing, however, couldn’t sustain their good start that allowed them to take a 41-30 lead late in the first half.
